Clockwork Subcomandante
Clockwork Subcomandante was formed by Dick Kent and Lades Blank in 2002. Originally founded as Negative Illusion Recording Company, the name of the label originating from wordplay of the two artists. In still a dizzy state of mind beeing tipsy, "les deux valseuses" waiting early sunday morning for public transportation in the City of Cologne. Asked by Mr. Blank: "Any new tracks noe?", Mr. Kent answers in a solsticing manner: "Negative, Illusionist." (Negativ du Illusionist! A way of humourous social interaction practiced by some small parts of the german urban culture). That Statement beeing spoken brought their creative potential to the nut.
In 2004 Gordon Shumway and Eddie Tokyo became part of Clockwork Subcomandante / Negative Illusion Recordings. Similar approaches toward the artform and a shared passion for electronic music production now shaping the sound of the label.
In June 2009 ambitions of the artists start rising, taking their music and label a step further to the next level, at that time still under the trademark of Negative Illusion Recordings. Alongside, the first own labelwebsite is launched in June 2011. As silly and annoying it seemed, the artists discussed and shared workflows and functioning ways of production, to translate common aims in style and flow more transparent into practice. The outcome was as surprising as mindblowing: Crucial factor on the labels way had to be, tracks by any means must be created by existing ideas and floats of the artists themselves.
An evolution of this just described creativity and also the supernatural mental powers of the artists in 2013 finally lead to the evolution of the label and a new trademark was needed. Clockwork Subcomandante was born with three dollars and six dimes.
Criterion for a common labels feel of a good track is determined by questioning if the tracks drums are smacking. In a meaning of "Der Ton macht die Musik." (german musically influenced wordplay generally speaking of: It´s not what you say, but how you say it.). It is mainly the rhythm by which music should be written.
The label doesn´t really wants to admit to a certain genre, fact is that Drum and Bass as well as Breaks/Breakbeat are dominating the labels releases. To the artists of Clockwork Subcomandante it always was, is and will remain the genre of music.
The artists influences are to be found in the genres of Rock n Roll, Hardrock, Pop, Funk, Jazz, Soul, House, Dubstep, Breakbeat, Jungle and Drum n Bass. But also Hip Hop, Reggae, Dancehall, Punk and Swing are gathering on their playlists. Even though listening to music has faded into the background to the artists.
The creativity of each ones own creature is determining for the sound of the label.
The New Moral Of Capital
The situation is this: our parents were used to destroy this world, now we are wanted to work on the recovery, and on top it shall be even more profitable.
The morbid excitement that journalists and advertising managers records for each new proof of the global warming is revealing the iron smile of the new green capitalism, the one which heralded since the 1970s, the one waited on and did not come.
Et bien, le voila! The ecology, that's the one!
The alternative solutions, that's the one!
The salvation of the planet, which the one still is!
No doubt about it: green is in the air; the environment is going to be the torque of the political economy of the 21st century. To any definite push of catastrophism a salvo of industrial solutions is following.
The inventor of the hydrogen bomb, Edward Teller, proposes to dispel millions of tons of metal dust into the stratosphere to stop global warming. The NASA, frustrated because she had to stow the big idea of an anti-missile shield in the museum of the fantasies of the Cold War, promises the construction of a huge mirror beyond the moon's orbit, which is to protect us from the deadly rays of the sun.
Another vision of the future: a motorized humanity, driving from Sao Paulo to Stockholm with bioethanol, a dream of the farming industry of americas corn belt, which requires everything in all nothing less but the conversion of all arable land on the planet into soybean and sugar beet fields.
At leafing through the pages of glossy magazines, ecological cars, clean energy and environmental counsulting without difficulty coexist with the latest Chanel advertisings.
It is said that the environment has the incomparable merit of being the first global problem presented to mankind. A global problem, which is a problem for which only those can have the solution, that are organized globally. And those we know. It is the same groups who for nearly a century have been the avant-garde of the disaster and determined to remain so at the minimum price of a logo change. That EDF (Électricité de France) has the audacity to dish up their nuclear program to us as a new solution to the global energy crisis, says enough about how similar the new solutions to the old problems are.
"It is up to each individual to change its behavior," if we want to save our beautiful model of civilization they say. It must be consumed little in order for consume to be possible. To produce biologically to still be able to produce. To force oneself to still be able to compel. This way a logic of this world may survive by being given the appearance of a historic breakthrough. And this way they want to convince us to participate in advancing the industrial challenges of this century. Crazy as we are, we would be ready to jump into the arms of those who have caused the devastation in order to get us out of it.
Ecology is not only the logic of the total economy, it is the new morality of capital. The internal state of crisis of the system and the unforgiving nature of selection are played out are so hard that a new criterion is needed to on its behalf perform such a sorting.
"Once the new economics and cultural behaviors will be customary, the coercived measures will doubtlessly be adapted by on its own."
In the name of ecology we will now have to tighten our belts, like yesterday on behalf of the industry.
Of course, roads could turn into bikeways, in our latitudes, we even could be honored with a guaranteed basic income, but only at the price of an entirely therapeutic existence. To argue that the generalized self-control will spare us the suffering of an environmental dictatorship is a lie: the one is the others lead in the way and we'll get both.
As long as there are human beings and the environment forced to progress on economics, the police will stand between them.
The only countries among the signatories of the Kyoto Protocol that are involuntarily meeting their obligations are Ukraine and Romania. Guess why. The furthest advanced experimentation by world standards of organic farming takes place in Cuba since 1989. Guess why. Along the African runways and not elsewhere, car mechanics has reached the rank of folk art. Guess how.
We will not allow ourselves to be robbed by those who have caused the possible contents of the catastrophy. While the administrators platonically ask, how the pace can be throttled "without destroying anything" we see no more realistic option than to as soon as possible "destroy everything" and until then take advantage of any breakdown of the system to gain on force.
